HARLEM NIGHTS: A KNOCK-OUT AFFAIR
The Links Foundation, Incorporated and The Austin (TX) Chapter of The Links Incorporated are proud to present another classic evening of entertainment in its Harlem Nights series, “A Knock-out Affair.” The event is set for Saturday, October 30, 2020, 7:00 p.m. at the elegant J. W. Marriott Hotel located at 110 E. 2nd Street in Austin, Texas. The Harlem Nights gala, the premier fundraiser of The Austin (TX) Chapter, celebrates the wealth of talent that permeated New York during the Harlem Renaissance period. The era saw the emergence of African Americans into the sport of boxing. Jack Johnson had become the first African American to win a world heavyweight championship in 1908 and held on to his title until 1915. His achievement inspired more African Americans to go into boxing and by the 1920s the sport flourished. As we focus on programming that addresses charitable and educational needs, we hope to capitalize on the prominence of the Harlem Renaissance to create our own “stars and legends” in the young people we seek to reach.
